History of Colorfest
Derrick Bryant, Creator/CEO
Derrick Bryant, Creator/President
Colorfest is a Non-Profit originally created by Derrick Bryant-CEO/President (NBHS c/o 99 and A&T Alumni) back in 2011. Derrick originally from New Bern, NC currently resides in GA where he is a successful Graphic Artist.
Since 2011 Derrick has come back to New Bern and helped beautify the area by painting a mural down
town on Queen Street in 2011 and 2016. Derrick has since then developed an event/program(Colorfest) for our youth to help in beautifying their communities and having fun at the same time. "Colorfest is an event for youth of all ages to come out and take part in giving back and restoring structures in the community that have become run down. This gives the community an overall better feel and appreciation for the arts as well." Bryant says.
Deon Britton, Operations Director/Vice President
Deon Britton is originally from New Bern, NC and currently resides in GA. Deon attended Appalachian State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a minor in Art.
One of Deon's objectives as Vice-President is to "Start planting seeds in young artist. Seeds that Colorfest will partner with members of the community to grow into positive arts based programming. Colorfest means building the community. Colorfest means love and respect. Colorfest means bringing like minded people together in an effort to nurture the creativity of children."
Ashley Taylor, Executive Director
Ashley Taylor is the Executive Director of Colorfest Inc. and is in charge of event planning, donor relations, and day to day operations. Ashley was born and raised in New Bern, NC and now resides in Brooklyn, NY, where she is the Senior Building Services Coordinator of one of the largest Non-profit Jewish Cultural centers in the United States.
Colorfest has allowed me the privilege of work with two of my childhood friends Deon and Derrick. As a parent of three creative children, I personally know the struggle of trying to find affordable arts based programs in poor communities. As a team our main goal is to bring different forms of arts to these communities and the children who live in them. Here at Colorfest we know that laying the foundation of creativity can and will change lives, neighborhoods, communities, and the world.
